Fall is here. Pumpkin spice is in the air and football games are on our televisions. There’s only one thing missing…the world’s largest beer festival, Oktoberfest! ‘Tis the season for everything bratwurst, sauerkraut, spicy mustard and beer!
I stumbled upon this feast of a recipe and instantly knew I had to make it. Not only did this recipe have everything I love to eat but it was cooked using one of my favorite methods…using foil packets. Foil packets are amazing. It’s a quick and easy way to add a lot of flavor with the bonus of minimal cleanup! Let’s face it…we don’t have any extra time to spend in the kitchen cleaning up. We need to get back to cheering for our favorite football teams!
(Adapted from Good Housekeeping Magazine)
Toss 12oz bratwurst, sliced; 1 1/3 cups sauerkraut; 1 small red onion, cut into wedges; 1 apple, cored & sliced; and 2 tsp caraway seeds.
** I find it even easier to place the ingredients right on the foil instead of placing them all into a bowl to mix. No need to dirty another dish. Let’s keep it simple! **
Divide among 4 foil sheets.
Pour ¼ cup beer over each.
** I raised the foil up on all sides to create a ‘bowl’ before I poured the beer in to keep it from spilling onto the table. **
Seal the packets.
Place on a cookie sheet and cook 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees. Serve with rye toast and LOTS of spicy mustard. Yummmm!!
