Introducing Lisa Fleming & Sweet Summer Baby!

Tell us a bit about yourself and what sparked the idea for your shop!

I grew up in the Midwest, but have called Orlando home for more than 12 years. I learned to sew from my mom, grandma, and from my beloved home-ec teacher. I spent most of my “pre-mom” years working as a 1st grade teacher and then as an editor for a textbook publisher. After being blessed with a beautiful baby girl (who is now 5), I was blessed again with the opportunity to stay home with her full-time. I started sewing little things for my daughter: bedding for her nursery, bibs, a dress for her first birthday, a stole for her baptism, things like that. With my husbands support, I opened my etsy shop, Sweet Summer Baby, with a few of these items. Bibs and baptism stoles are still best-sellers in my shop. And my daughter is, without a doubt, still  the biggest inspiration for my shop.

What can we look forward to seeing in Sweet Summer Baby’s line up?
I just started playing around with knit fabrics this summer, and I’m hooked. I found some great Made in the USA knit fabrics that are so bright, trendy and charming that I can’t stop myself from ordering more! I have some darling little knit caps for the fall, and you’ll find more and more knit apparel and accessories start to appear in the shop.

Favorite thing about living in Orlando –
I have grown to love the autumn in Orlando There are so many festivals and special events for the whole family: art shows and church fall festivals and Oktoberfest celebrations. Every weekend in the fall offers so many choices. Plus you can’t be the change in the weather that October brings!
You know you’re an Orlando mom when…
You know all the words to Airplane Jane and 5-Second Rule. We love Mr. Richard!!
What are some encouraging words that you would give to a mom who desires to pursue her handmade business?
Know who you are and what you want to accomplish and surround yourself with others who will support you in your dream. You can do it, Mama!
