Would you believe me if I told you that as a self-proclaimed beauty professional, I don’t wear much makeup?

It’s true. I blame motherhood. Honestly though, who has 30 minutes a day to do their makeup? Most days we’re lucky if we can get a shower and those of you mamas with newborns or more than one child, you consider a day GRAND if you’ve managed to pee alone. That said, I am so not judging you for not making makeup a priority. Yes, I know natural beauty is great and we should all love how we look without makeup. But girlfriend, let me tell you…makeup can work some wonders. It’s magic, really. It has the ability to make you look as if you are…awake. I could write a whole book (hehe, or blog) about foundations, lip products and eye shadow but for now, let’s focus on mascara, mkay?

The-Mascara-Guide-for-Busy-Moms2Mascara is by far my most favorite beauty product because it takes very little time to apply aaaand it gives the most results. When I put on mascara, it instantly takes me from “Mom who rolled out of bed” to “Heyyyy…who’s that gorgeous mama?”. Truthfully, many days I could care less, but on days when I have meetings, want to feel beautiful or just need to NOT look like the walking dead, the mascara goes on. And here’s how…

Step 1: Buy A Mascara.

Spend a few dollars on yourself and buy a mascara. Some are good, others are better but for right now, keep it simple and buy whatever catches your eye.

My picks:

Benefit They’re Real ($23, Sephora.com)
L’Oreal Miss Manga ($7.99, Drugstore.com)

Step 2: If Needed, Curl Your Lashes.

I get a lot of emails asking me how to really make those eyes pop and the easiest answer is this..curl your lashes! I was blessed with crazy wonky lashes that go in many different directions but I’ve found that when I use an eyelash curler, I can get them all going in the same direction and my mascara tends to work better.

My picks:

Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler ($20, ShuUemura.com)

e.l.f Studio Eyelash Curlers – ($3, EyesLipsFace.com)

Step 3: Apply mascara from root to tip in slow strokes.

Wiggle gently. I find that lifting my chin up really helps me apply mascara better. A great mascara really only needs 2 good coats. Keep a Q-tip handy in case you smudge a bit.

Step 4: Rock those freshly mascara’d lashes

and fool everyone into thinking that you got 8 hours of restful sleep. Or stay at home and continuously peek at yourself in the mirror. Whatever works!

You’d be surprised at what a little mascara can do the eyes. If you’re feeling extra ambitious, apply a little eyeliner and mascara on those bottom lashes. Apply mascara on my bottom lashes is a little secret weapon I use for when I really want to look polished.

Are you a mascara lover? If so, what’s your favorite one?

  1. “Or stay at home and continuously peek at yourself in the mirror.” Ha! I love this, Brittany. You are so real. I have totally done this. Especially when we had our teeth whitened. I kept wanting to check to remind myself they were still whiter than before. LOL

  2. “Most days we’re lucky if we can get a shower and those of you mamas with newborns or more than one child, you consider a day GRAND if you’ve managed to pee alone.” RIGHT?! Love this too!! Thanks!

  3. I have 5 beautiful children and half of my life I was either pregnant or running around like a crazy person. My youngest baby is 10 now and I’m still running around to practices, school events, etc! Not having time for my self and just feeling and looking blah was alway me until I discovered great skincare, BB Cream for nights out and Rodan+Fields foundation free Mineral Peptides SPF 20 loose powder for everyday use.
Shuuemura eye lash curler is by far my favorite and Shiseido’s eyelash curler is a great runner up! As for mascara, I was surprised that you didn’t include Shiseido’s perfect mascar full definition! I’ve been using Shiseido mascara for years and the compliments never stop! For all you busy moms, take time for yourself, give your skin some love by setting aside at least 10 to 15 mins each night for a much needed skincare regimen. You will love the clean “slate” face you’ll wake up to! https://nancykalisch.myrandf.com/
