We’ve Got Spirit, Yes We Do… How ‘Bout You?! 8 Ways to Infuse Football Fun into Your Family

It’s time. Our countdown over the summer has been dwindling away. September is my energizing month — because college football season kicks off this week!! It doesn’t matter if your entire family is loyal to one team, or if you’re a house divided, it’s always fun to get in the fall football spirit with your family.

Here are 8 Ways to Infuse Football Fun into Your Family

1. National College Colors Day is this Friday, September 2.

Wear your favorite team’s colors, take a photo, and upload to social media to share in the fun. Facebook even has special photo frames right now to enhance your pic.

2. Get in the spirit with brightly colored nail polish, nail decals, or washable tattoos.

I love a good game-day manicure and now our daughter does too. Many of the nail decal companies offer a collegiate line now.

3. Make a football-themed food item with your kids.

Whether it’s cupcakes in your team colors or a football-related snack like goalpost guacamole. If you’re taking it to a tailgate, make sure it’s easy to transport!

4. Get crafty.

Decorate a chalkboard frame with your team colors and then attach a small wooden alligator, feather, knight or bull to the corner of the board, or even your school’s acronym! Or pick up some ribbon in your team colors and make a hair bow holder. For little ones, find a coloring page of your mascot and break out the crayons. As long as you’re creating something together, whether it’s memories or a craft, that’s the best kind of fun to have.

5. Chalk it up.

Take that same chalk from your sign and have the kids decorate the driveway or your tailgate area.

6. Practice your team’s fight song.

For toddlers and babies, insert your mascot into a song like Old McDonald Had a Farm (alligator with a chomp chomp here etc.)

7. Check your alumni association

See if there’s a kids club to join or any activities happening on game days. Even if you aren’t an alumni of your favorite school, the alumni association is a wonderful resource for the community at large as well.

8. Read a story before game day.

Find a book that incorporates your favorite mascot. We have a few ranging from topics like “countdown to touchdown” or “I want to be a Gator.”

9. We went into overtime with these tips so here’s one of the most important tip: Enjoy the game!

Whether you’re going in person or watching on TV, have fun, wear your colors, cheer like a true fan, and may the best team win!
