Are you as clueless as I am when it comes to what to DO for Father’s Day? Spend it together? Give him free time to do guy stuff? Do something new, something you know he loves? Or just do your normal routine with the addition of a tasty steak dinner?
The best answer is… ASK HIM! If his answer is vague, here are some ideas to suggest. OR if you want to surprise him with a weekend full of activities, look no further than our What ToDo for Father’s Day list! Hopefully hubby AKA Dad will see how much you and the little one(s) love and care about him!
1. Spend Some Time at the Springs!
Rather than hitting the beach, visit a spot a little closer to home! Check out Deleon Springs State Park, Blue Spring State Park or Wekiwa State Park. Have you checked out WeKiva Island? It’s just down the road from the state park is a great place where locals like to kick back and listen to music while the kids jump in the spring. You can rent canoes and paddle with the family on the water, followed by a drink from the tiki bar. You can also rent a cabana for a little privacy with the ability to cook out with your own grill. If you decide to venture to Deleon Springs, I say go early and hit breakfast for a new experience at the famous Old Spanish Sugar Mill Grill and Griddle House! All of the springs fill up fast, so be sure to get there early to avoid sad faces and frustration.
2. Farmers Market, Splash Pad and Lunch!
Have you ever been to Shady Park Splash Pad in Winter Park? It is great for all ages with lots of shade for protection from the sun. Bring a chair and let the little ones run with daddy through the water! I you want to visit the Winter Park Farmers’ Market, be sure to visit on Saturday where you can experience the fresh strawberry lemonade, kettle corn and Peak Season Pops stands! If you’re thinking dad will need a tasty lunch or dinner after splash pad fun, check out The Coop, A Southern Affair (closed on Sundays) just 1-block over from the park…my husband recommends the Chicken and Waffles!
3. Get Some Fitness In with the Family!
Remember “field day” back in our school years? Baby Boot Camp Orlando welcomes dads to join moms for a healthy dose of competition at their Father’s Day Family Fun Field Day! A little competition, a little sweat and a LOT of FUN…oh, and in case you need one more reason to come, Jeremiah’s Italian Ice truck will be there for a post-workout refresher! RSVP on Facebook for the Father’s Day Family Fun Field Day event or create a profile and sign up at babybootcamp.com for your families’ first class free on Father’s Day weekend. When: Saturday, June 20 at 9:30 A.M. Where: Maitland Community Park: 1400 Mayo Dr. Maitland, 32751
4. Plan a Dad Kind of Day at Home!
What does your husband love on the grill? Steak? Maybe burgers and dogs?! Well thats it! Set up the inflatable pool, pick up his favorite beer, meats for grilling and maybe even a fun dessert for him and the kids to get messy and eat out back. The kicker is, dad is not doing the grilling. Let dad play, hang out and watch kids while you cook up some tasty grub on the grill, set up picnic in the back yard and enjoy!
5. Summer Fresh Picked Strawberries, Milkshakes and Hot Dogs!
The Oak Haven Strawberry Farm is great for a little entertainment and picking deliciously fresh summer strawberries. Grab a basket and head out to pick strawberries together! When you’re finished, make sure to get a freshly made strawberry milkshake as well as dogs on a stick! Grill your own hot dogs at the picnic tables for a fun and different kind of lunch! They have tractor rides and playground for kiddos to get some extra energy out and spend some more of the day just enjoying the fresh air and cooling shade. When you get back home plan some fun recipes for the family to try out with the strawberries, not just for desserts!
Happy Father’s Day!
