I’m not a hot mess mom, I’m just a hot mess!

Long before the term “hot mess” became popular, I was known as being just a mess. I like to classify myself as organized chaos. But for the sake of being honest, let’s call it what it is, I’m a hot mess.

Let’s define hot mess…

Urban Dictionary {stop acting like you don’t use Urban Dictionary just because you’re a mom…} defines hot mess as “when ones thoughts or appearance are in a state of disarray but they maintain an undeniable attractiveness or beauty.” I can’t say that I disagree with this definition but I’d like to add ” when ones life is in disarray” to that definition.

Hot Mess Mama

I’ve always been a hot mess

I’m that person who has five alarms set and still waits until the last minute to get out of bed. Then you’ll see me running around like a crazy woman screaming “I’m gonna be late!” while trying to piece together my work outfit and trying to find my shoes. For the record, I’m never actually late, I’m always right on time. But it sure is a gamble in the process!

I wait until the last minute to do things. For example, when I was in school I waited until the last minute to write all my papers and I would stress about them but I always managed to get a high score. Another example is I wait until the night before or the morning of when we know company is coming over to clean the house. You better believe that house looks almost spotless once they get there!

In a quarterly work review, I was told that my work was stellar and amazing but I needed to work on my desk being more organized and more presentable. I was offended at this review I received. I bought new inboxes, new desk organizers and everything I could to fix this so called problem. My desk was spotless for all of one week but of course I made my boss add in my review that I cleaned my desk and it was great. I’m not very good at keeping a calendar or remembering when I’ve scheduled lunch dates or dinner dates with friends and sometimes I double book.

Hot Mess Mom

I guess I’m not really painting the best picture of myself. But I know there has to be at least one person out there nodding your head to all these things I mentioned, silently saying “YES GIRL! I’m right there with you!”

Now a Hot Mess Mom

I now have the title of mom. I’m scared that when the time comes for my daughter to be in school I’ll forget about projects. I’ll forget to pack her lunch. I’ll still be running out the door like a mad woman but never really being late. So now you can call me the hot mess mom if you want but let’s be real clear on one thing…I was a hot mess way before I became a hot mess mom. At least I’m consistent!

Are any moms out there a hot mess like me? Don’t make me feel alone!
